When you think of Coronado you typically think of the Hotel del Coronado, one of America’s best beaches, and the downtown San Diego skyline across San Diego bay. People come here to relax and avoid the hustle and bustle of the city. But what about the people that come here and would like a little fun once the sun goes down? Where can you go for a drink and some conversation? Where is a great place to listen to some live music or catch the game? Just because the beach has gone dark doesn’t mean that the fun has to end.
Whether you’re in the mood for a beer, a glass of wine, or some 18 year old Scotch, McP’s Irish Pub has you covered. One of the most well-known local hotspots in Coronado, McP’s Irish Pub has been entertaining locals and tourists for decades. They have live entertainment nightly from some of the area’s most popular local talent. Not in the mood for music? With 18 flat screen TVs, and baseball and football packages from Direct TV, you’ll be able to watch your favorite team play. Fire pits and heaters, along with shade trees and umbrellas, make people watching from their dog friendly patio an ideal spot. So stop by for a Guinness and soak up the atmosphere.
Another great place to unwind after spending all day in the sun relaxing is The Tavern. Although not as established as some of the other hotspots, The Tavern has quickly become a favorite place for locals and visitors alike. The atmosphere is very casual, with lots of different types of personalities grabbing a drink or a meal. With a full menu selection, as well as bar food, you’ll find it easy to be tempted even you didn’t think you were hungry. It wouldn’t be a tavern without an expansive selection of adult beverages and they do not disappoint. There is an array of craft beers to choose from, both bottled and draft, as well as domestic beers, wines and cocktails. If you like low key fun with good food and a great choice of drinks, then The Tavern is worth your time.
And speaking of craft beer… Coronado Brewing Company is the best place to visit for locally brewed craft beers. Whether your there with friends to have a drink, or stopping by to grab some lunch, Coronado Brewing Co. will not disappoint. The atmosphere is fun and light, with a nice mix of island goers and locals. Things get a little more exciting on the weekends when the San Diego crowd ventures over the bridge to enjoy some of their expertly crafted beer. With a selection of award winning, hand crafted beers, and great food in the perfect location, Coronado Brewing Company definitely deserves to be on your top 3 places to eat while visiting the Island.
These are just a few of the most popular hotspots here on Coronado. Given their location, reputation, and personal experience, I would recommend and direct anyone to any of these establishments. Of course, if you’re feeling adventurous, having a chat with some of the locals will probably help you to uncover some of the hidden gems here on the Island, making you among the very few that know what Coronado truly has to offer.
